Have you ever noticed how wonderful the beer commercials make drinking beer look? The guys are always in great shape, no one has fat pants on, or a beer belly or a double chin. Instead these actors are all in tip top condition. They are able to play volleyball or catch a football on a mountain top and never get winded. If these gorgeous girls in these plotted satires factually adore these alkies then the beer must have something besides alcohol in it, like a magic love potion.
In all reality, these attractive babes would have to be drunk themselves not to be turned off by real life guys with stale beer breath and fat guts. These Mythical Madison Avenue advertisements are helping to lead many a man into the Betty Ford clinic. People like to live under a fable and lie to themselves about why they drink and tell themselves how they could stop drinking any time that they want and talk about how freaky people are that do not drink.
How about the motion picture industry that often shows the educated yuppies at the sports bar after work, hoping to win a few beans from their bookie as they enjoy the game on the giant screen hanging over the bar, having just a couple pops with the boys as they build some good memories together before they end each day. Yea right! It’s more like gambling today to catch up with what you lost last night, drinking to forget how empty you are, and fighting your friends because you thought they looked at you or your girl the wrong way, and maybe wrecking your car on the way home.
Listen to the wisdom from the word of God, the bible,
Proverbs 20: 1 - Wine is a mocker, Strong drink is a brawler,
And whoever is led astray by it is not wise.
Proverbs 31: 6 - Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish.
Isaiah 5: 11 -Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that continue until night, till wine inflame them!
The Bible also says that drunkenness is a sin and not a disease. So, if you are man enough to drink, then be man enough to call your problem what it really is. We live in a day where every one is called a victim and everyone wants to blame someone or something other than themselves for their own problems. If you want help, and there is help! Then don’t hide behind some psycho-babel explanation for your problem.
There is a One-step program. No, not a twelve step or an “In Clinic” program but “One Step”! Are you ready for this? Here it is; Jesus said, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-29
I know this sounds to good be true but it is. Let me tell you a bit of what Jesus did for me. I started drinking when I was eleven years old. All my friends drank. At first we drank on the week ends. After school on Fridays we would all meet and give our money to one of the guys who had a fake ID and looked eighteen. He and a few others would buy all the beer, wine or liquor and then we would all meet at the subway off of Dewey Avenue. They would need a two wheel dollie to get the juice there. Soon, I began drinking every day.
One year I had three hit and run accidents within three weeks time. The last accident happened on New Years Eve. I hit a car with a family in it. I stopped to see if everyone was ok because I heard a little kid cry out. I walked up to their car and asked if everyone was alright. The father said that they were. He said that the little girl just got startled but she was alright. I saw her face and she smiled at me, so I knew she was not hurt.
So, I got back in my car and we drove away. Well, they reported the accident and I heard that the police had a bench warrant out on me. I turned myself in and I had my license suspended until I finished a six week coarse on driving responsibly and what happens when people drive intoxicated. We watched movies of terrible accidents and our instructor talked to us about what might happen if we kept it up. After each class I went directly to the neighborhood joint with my buddies. To stop drinking was never even an option for me; that topic was taboo to me.
When I was twenty three years old I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ. Believe it or not, one of the conditions that I made before I would pray and ask the Son of God into my heart was that I would never stop drinking. I was told that if I gave Jesus my life, He would take care of my heart. So I did. We would meet at my house, discuss the scriptures, while consuming beer and Jack Daniels. With in weeks, Jesus took away my desire and dependants on alcohol. That was almost 29 years ago.
Now, if he could do that for me, He could do that for you.
One Step – Call upon Jesus! Ask Him to forgive you of your sins. If you are ready, ask Him to take your addiction away. If you mean both, He will do both!
I suggest you get yourself a bible and learn of Him.
You will find that He loves you and that Jesus is WONDERFUL!
