If you live your life for your own pleasure and happiness you will soon come to a disappointing end. Even if you are able to do everything that you ever wanted to do, the end of that would be emptiness. There would be no purpose to live any more. You would fall into deep despair and depression.
We have seen this lived out with people such as Alexander the Great, who after he had conquered the whole world quicker than he or anyone else thought that he could, was then without a purpose to live and he died a alcohol induced young death. Jesus asked the rhetoric question; “For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?”
You see there is something worse then death, that is eternal separation from the God who created you, the God who loves you so much that He became a man to die for your wrongs. Eternal damnation is not what God wants for anyone. Jesus came to give you eternal life. Satan, whom the bible calls the god of this world, will offer you this entire world and then as you are receiving it, you will find out that his gifts are connected to your own ticket to hell. Jesus said that hell was created for the devil and his angels. God doesn’t want anyone to go there but some people love their temporary pleasures and treasures so much, they would trade an eternity in heaven for a few moments of pleasure.
The average death of a rock star is 36.9 years. Jim Morrison, Cliff Burton, Karen Carpenter, Kurt Cobain, Steve Clark, Allen Collins, John Lennon and many more rock stars, all died of suicide or tragic early deaths. Look what the word of God says in Job 36: 14 They die in youth, and their life is among the unclean. Whether you are Howard Hughes, Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe or a no name person who lives for self and your own pleasure, soon you will become BORED TO DEATH.
The key to a happy life, a blessed life, a life with purpose is to live for the purpose that you were created for. We find in the book of Revelation the reason for our existence. Revelation 4: 11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
If you disregard this fact and live life for yourself then you will become miserable and your end may be catastrophic. If you live with the purpose to bring God all glory and honor, then you will be totally satisfied! He will satisfy you! Try it you’ll like it!
